In the city of Cologne they drink and brew Kolsch Beer and the brewers’ guild has protected it since 1254. Kölsch is a top-fermented ale, a throwback to the days before lagers took over the Germanic world. Kölsch offers the simple pleasures of a well crafted beer. It is very pale, the aromatics are a light mélange of hops, malt, and fruit. The Kölsch Beer maintains a bitterness that is quite restrained, although the palate is light-bodied and bone-dry, with a soft malt flavor in the center giving way to a drying, slightly acidic finish. Smoothness is conferred by one to two months of cold conditioning. Kölsch makes an excellent replacement for Stella Artois beer drinkers! Subtle flavors with a unique yeast strain direct from Cologne make this an authentic Kölsch style beer. Read Less

All beer was once dark, but it was not until modern kilning of malts in the early 1800’s and the discovery of cold fermenting Lager strains in the 1840’s that allowed all the beautiful flavors of a Dunkel to come to life. Dunkels, including Chuckanut’s, are typically a deep reddish-brown color, capped by an impressively sturdy tan head. As in all lagers, the flavors in Dunkel are produced directly by the ingredients; in this case some of the malts have been roasted, giving Dunkel toffee, chocolate, coffee, and even licorice notes. There is just enough bitterness to balance out the malt. Chuckanut Brewery’s Dunkel has won a total of seven prominent medals since 2009 (four Gold, two Silver, one Bronze) from the GABF, World Beer Cup 2010, WA Beer Awards and the NABA. Read Less

It’s malty, balanced, easy-drinking character has earned it the sobriquet “liquid bread”, and it is often served for breakfast. Helles retains less alcohol than a pilsner, averaging between 4.5-5 percent; they are more full bodied than the Pilsner.
