Our first beer brewed in our Genius Loci Series. This beer is groundbreaking, brewed with only local ingredients! We used local water, hand-crafted malt from the Copperfox Distillery in Sperryville, a little bit of unmalted wheat from Billy Dawson's Bays Best Feed (the malted barley was grown by Billy too), and locally harvested Ashburn yeast isolated and tested by Jasper Akerboom. This beer was an adventure to brew, because we used all new ingredients. The resulting beer is amazing; the maltiness from the grain and the prolonged boil to get the nice color, blend perfectly with the yeast aromatics and flavors. We fermented this beer at 85 degrees Fahrenheit to push the yeast to the limit, and we are definitely rewarded. A first for Virginia! Read Less

It is balanced, but robust - like a Rhino on the veldt - it's graceful, but will not stand down. Megafauna pays tribute to the large animals that still roam the planet. They are rare and precious, so Lost Rhino made a rare and precious beer in their honor and in the hope that they will be preserved. Read Less

This is a twist on a New England Hazy IPA. Brewed with a simple malt bill to showcase the West Coast hops such as Citra, Mosaic, and Amarillo. These hops alone produce tangerine and citrus aromas. We then decided to add a little over 150 pounds of blood oranges to the mix. The yeast used in Over The Falls doesn't weigh you like other NEIPAs and produces some delicate flavors such as bubblegum and hard candies. Read Less

Bone Dusters, a collaboration between beer and science! On our never ending quest for new yeast strains, we decided to collaborate with Paleo Quest and dust some protocetid whale fossils found in Virginia near the Dismal Swamp now on display in the Calvert Marine Museum. A wild yeast was found, having fruity and very unique characteristics. We decided to brew an amber ale with this yeast, balancing the personality of this organism with a nice maltiness.
