John BD: I do wish I could post a 2nd photo in the same checkin because it was humorous to see a bottle labeled “Best By 07-02-2017” on the back. Shoutout to Matt S. for helping convince me to buy a pile of these back in the day, a handful of which I still have.
John BD is drinking a Trader Joe's Vintage Ale (2014) by Unibroue at Untappd at Home
Always have to pull an awkward bottle from the cellar when Josh D. is in town, and this fit the bill nicely. But its Unibroue quality held up well, it was a touch oxidized but honestly still quite decent with some spices and malty dark fruit sweetness.

Absolutely excellent NEIPA - I haven’t had much Trillium recently (hoping Josh D. can keep me a bit better supplied…) but man this is a citrusy tropical bomb. Fluffy mouthfeel but way more drinkable than I normally expect from these styles. #proper
John BD is drinking a Kaleidoscope Cuvee by Goose Island Beer Co. at Untappd at Home
This was really good - even better than I was expecting. Stout characters dominate and perhaps inevitably recall some BCBS notes, but there’s a definite thread of the barleywine component that lends it a caramel undercurrent that complements the rest and
John BD: seems to lighten the body in a barely perceptible way, but just enough to set it apart. If they can do it this well every time, I’ll buy any barrel experiment that Goose wants to package and sell. #proper
John BD is drinking a Good Pie Cruel World by Deviate Brewing at Untappd at Home
Nice sweet pastry nose, with a distinct pie crust character that blends nicely with the sweet malty base. The adjunct doesn’t last much past the first blush before the base takes over, but it’s still an interesting beer with a flavor that does work.

Post-dinner libation this evening consisted of sharing another of the stash that Josh D. brought me from the source. Huge orange/tangerine nose with a fairly dense mouthfeel; leans sweet and maybe a touch resin-y in the finish. Very good. #proper
