Lucas D: Did you try BreWskey's P-Nut Buster? Probably my favorite of the style!

Eric Erickson is drinking a Double Mind Haze by Firestone Walker Brewing Company at City of San Francisco
Nice fruity yeasty doughy, tropical fruit, pineapple, orange peel, sweet honeyed pilsner, wheat, oat malt aroma, with a tropical, citrus, subtle greeny hop nose and a juicy tropical, citrus peel, fruity yeasty, doughy, wheat, oat malt, tropical hop taste.

Archetype for the style and always a pleasure. There's a smoothness that comes from the barrel blending but some of the smaller single barrel batch BBA stouts (if done right) can have an added dimension on certain batches at the expense of consistency.

Provost Drunk is drinking a Barrel Aged Bestowed - Bourbon (Heaven Hill Barrel - Red Wax) by Third Moon Brewing Company at City of San Francisco
Sad to be flying out shortly but I leave with the comfort that this locally brewed BBA beer is on par with the best I've had out here. Just a slight wood astringency in finish, but the smooth brownie batter notes paper over the crack. Well done Third Moon

Provost Drunk is drinking a Peanut Butter Milk Stout by Belching Beaver Brewery at City of San Francisco
Fun beer. Definitely better than Left Hand's peanut butter milk stout, but I still had slightly higher expectations.

Provost Drunk: Lucas D. I have! It was good. Their P-Nut Creme Glacee was even better; I still dream about that beer.
Lucas D: Provost D. Oh that must have been crazy. Looking back at my ratings I preferred their imperial version but did not try the Crème Glacée.
Provost Drunk is drinking a Bourbon Paradise by Prairie Artisan Ales at City of San Francisco
Not quite as special as I remember it being. Leaning a bit too sweet and bland, but at least the adjuncts are within a reasonable balance. Barrel present but subdued.
Purchased at Liquid Gold
Provost Drunk: Got sweeter and more generic as it wore on; I felt compelled to downgrade from the initial 4.25 rating.
Provost Drunk is drinking a Malevolent Benevolence (Laphroaig Peated Scotch Barrel Aged) (2021) by Rorschach Brewing Co at City of San Francisco
Brought an extra bottle for my friend to keep, but it wasn't his style and I am definitely not going to let this one go to waste.

Provost Drunk is drinking a Bourbon County Brand Stout (2022) 14.3% by Goose Island Beer Co. at City of San Francisco
Special as always.
Provost Drunk is drinking a Barrel-Aged Scarface Imperial Stout by Speakeasy Ales & Lagers at City of San Francisco
Solid if somewhat unspectacular entrant. The base stout has that classic charred RIS profile and the bourbon barrel overlays some caramel/vanilla sweetness but is a bit subtle. A touch thin and not as much as body as the heavier hitters in this line-up.
Purchased at Liquid Gold
Provost Drunk: Between a 4 and 4.25 initially, but I became increasingly comfortable with the lower score by the end of the bottle.
Provost Drunk is drinking a Bourbon Barrel Dark Apparition (2022) by Jackie O's Brewery at City of San Francisco
Extremely sweet. This was supposed to be an adjunct free BBA stout but I would not be shocked at all if it was conditioned on vanilla beans. Tons of wood on the nose but not so much on the palate.
Purchased at Liquid Gold
Provost Drunk: Can't give this one a 4 in good conscience; it is too damn sweet.
Provost Drunk is drinking a Baden Power IS Bourbon Barrel Aged by O'Clock Brewing at City of San Francisco
Not quite as good as I remember it tasting while still being a solid entrant. Good mix of barrel and beer with some underlying char and roast, but compared to Parabola there is more of a fudgey caramel sweetness to Baden Power.
Purchased at Bières Cultes Châtelet
Provost Drunk is drinking a Parabola (2023) by Firestone Walker Brewing Company at City of San Francisco
Spectacular. Big bourbon barrel presence but the underlying stout still shines with some cocoa/chocolate upfront and some burnt char in the finish. Bold and beautiful.

May not have been the freshest bottle, but was still a crisp accompanyment to some pizza.

Provost Drunk is drinking a Wicked Juicy by Cellarmaker Brewing Company at City of San Francisco
Revisiting. Candidly, I confused this one with Barebottle's Wonder Dust when I saw it in the fridge and was actually looking to revisit that one. In any event, it's a solid hazy offering from a bay area brewery; just not my favourite one.

Provost Drunk is drinking The Abyss Scotch (2016) by Deschutes Brewery at City of San Francisco
Decent dry scotch presence from the barrel counterbalances plenty of dried fruit type character from the underlying stout (licorice too).

Provost Drunk is drinking a Malevolent Benevolence (Laphroaig Peated Scotch Barrel Aged) (2021) by Rorschach Brewing Co at City of San Francisco
Brought this bottle all the way to San Francisco only for it to be lost a bit on my friend who doesn't appreciate the peat, but this one is still brilliant for me.

Provost Drunk is drinking a Bourbon County Brand Stout (2022) 14.3% by Goose Island Beer Co. at City of San Francisco
Delicious as always. Heavier on the vanilla than some other vintages, but I can forgive that. Sweet caramel notes as well.
