Cracking. How come we see this style so rarely nowadays. Oily hops, deep body, bitterness interlaced with a boozy warmth, but a finish that balances sweetness and piney bite. Lovely.

Had to retry this because I loved it a year ago, but I think it hasn't improved since then. The chocolate notes have dropped, and the booze and tannins are more prominent. Finishes with a leathery bitterness where the wood cushioned it before.

Chunky and opaque in the glass, smooth body with a supple vanilla-fruit amalgam in the mid-palate. Long soft finish, with just a suggestion of the heat you get from 10% abv.

I was clearly starry eyed about the imports on offer at Carwyn, but this is again too old and lacking coherence. Might have been fine at some point, but it's now slightly ashy, bitter and flat. A suggestion of fruit on the back, but the bulk is long gone.

I didn't rate this, to be honest. It was maybe old, but it was fairly flat-bodied with a papery malt note and very little coffee character to lift it. Probably my fault for not going for the local option.

Best IPA I’ve had. Tasty, citrusy, bold, but ultimately clean finish in the mouth. Refreshing.
