Name inspired by the 'Warrant of Execution' for Charles I - a copy of which is in The King's Head, where the brewery is based.

Most of the signatures on the warrant were collected in 1648 after Charles I was over-thrown and imprisoned by Oliver Cromwell. The final signatures were hurriedly added on January 29th, the day before Charles I execution. Read Less

As this is Ginger No. 1 without the ginger we decided to call it Smokey Nol.

Whilst the explanation for the name Ginger Nol holds together, we are unaware at this time as to any smokey attributes Oliver Cromwell may have had!

Having decided to change the name of Ginger Nol to Ginger No. 1, we have now decided to change the name of this beer also - it is now simply called Smoked Ale. Read Less
