A solid German lager! A little sweet, fairly bready - pours nice and pale.

Power Pop Double Hazy IPA by Polyrhythm Brewing

Dev Taylor is drinking a Power Pop Double Hazy IPA by Polyrhythm Brewing at Highlands

Late check-in from last night. I really enjoyed this one! There's a little heat towards the finish - probably from the Nelson Sauvin hops - but otherwise it's fantastic. Creamy and full-bodied. Polyrhythm has been stepping up their hazy game lately 👍

Dev Taylor is drinking a Rigor Mortis Abt Brandy (2023) by Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! at Highlands

I cracked this one open in celebration of an excellent result in the St. Albert Road Race today. I really enjoyed it! It's moderately boozy (in a good way), warming, and maybe slightly more spicy than saccharine. I'm toasting myself for a job well done!

Maybe not my favorite Italian Pils...but certainly not the worst either. Not bad, on the balance of things.

Digital Audio Hazy IPA by Polyrhythm Brewing

Dev Taylor is drinking a Digital Audio Hazy IPA by Polyrhythm Brewing at Highlands

This is an unreal hazy, and quite a statement of intent from Polyrhythm. Citra, Citra Incognito, and Riwaka hops combine really nicely. It's quite full-bodied at 6.5%, yet it's also pillowy-soft and smooth like a Super Sat. Outstanding 🙌

Kindling Imperial Stout 2023 by Cannery Brewing

Dev Taylor is drinking a Kindling Imperial Stout 2023 by Cannery Brewing at Highlands

A really pleasant surprise! It lands more on the dessert/pastry stout side, and I'm 100% okay with that. It's ultra-smooth, and not cloying at all. That's two really enjoyable beers for me tonight - this partial cellar clear-out has been a real success 😎

Dev Taylor is drinking an Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l'Ancienne (2017-2018) by Gueuzerie Tilquin at Highlands

A real quality Lambic to start the weekend off right! Medium acidity, low carb, clean finish. This is the first bottle I've tried from this brewery (Gueuzerie?), but I'll definitely try and find some more in the future 😁

Quite a nice Czech Pils. It's sessionable, crisp, and slightly bitter on the balance of things - but the finish is nice and clean. I'd have this one again anytime 👍

Czech Pale Lager by Blindman Brewing

Dev Taylor is drinking a Czech Pale Lager by Blindman Brewing at Highlands

I had the taproom-only, non-foeder-aged version this past fall. I think this one's maybe a half-step behind? It pours fairly dark for the style and is a little sharp...it's lacking a bit of the smoothness you'd want in a lager. Still decent, though.

Quite a nice CDA! Roasty, hoppy, thirst-quenching. I wish this style was more popular, because I really dig it.

Exp. Kiwi by Irrational Brewing Company

Dev Taylor is drinking an Exp. Kiwi by Irrational Brewing Company at Highlands

This is an outstanding Pilsner - a real elevation of the style. Crisp, cryo-hoppy, and quite full-bodied for a 4.5% beer. It lands in a similar spot as Cabin's "Border Hop" West Coast Pale Ale, which I also love. I've gotta find a four-pack now!

Exp. Bright by Irrational Brewing Company

Dev Taylor is drinking an Exp. Bright by Irrational Brewing Company at Highlands

This is a really tasty hazy. It incorporates some harsher hops like Galaxy, yet tempers that sharpness well enough. There's some cannabis notes too. I feel like Irrational is Edmonton's best-kept secret, especially when it comes to hazies. IYKYK!

Cocobänger by Põhjala

Dev Taylor is drinking a Cocobänger by Põhjala at Highlands

A viscous pour with low carb. Cocoa-forward, medium roastyness, mild coconut. Rich, incredibly smooth. This is just a really fucking great Imperial Stout - it's one of my favorite brews of 2024 so far 😁

Westmalle Trappist Tripel by Brouwerij der Trappisten van Westmalle

Dev Taylor is drinking a Westmalle Trappist Tripel by Brouwerij der Trappisten van Westmalle at Highlands

More spicy (and less saccharine) than most other Tripels I've tried thus far. It's maybe missing a little bit of the richness that I look for in this style - but still, I enjoyed this one 👍

Trappistes Rochefort 8 by Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy

Dev Taylor is drinking a Trappistes Rochefort 8 by Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy at Highlands

In a direct comparison, I'd probably prefer the 10. This one's a bit less rich and full-bodied - but it's still a solid beer in its own right, so I'm glad I gave it a shot! Flavors of toffee and raisins, mild to medium roasty-ness.

Wham! by Eighty-Eight Brewing Co.

Dev Taylor is drinking a Wham! by Eighty-Eight Brewing Co. at Highlands

The flavor profile starts with heavy mango / tropical fruit flavors, but then turns into something a bit different that I can't quite put my finger on (and didn't love, TBH). It is well crafted though - there's no lingering acidity / bite in the finish.
